Overview
The financial crisis and economic recession have brought executive pay into the spotlight as never before. The Financial Services Authority Code of Practice and the Walker Review both suggest far-reaching changes to the governance and design of executive remuneration in the financial services sector. But the issues are spreading beyond just that sector. Shareholder activism relating to the 2009 AGM round was not restricted to the banking industry. The Combined Code review and amendments to Association of British Insurers' Guidelines are likely to consider the extent to which lessons learned from the financial crisis should be applied across all sectors.
What does this mean for how companies should be measuring performance and designing pay systems?
